Seeing “Sold out” on a plant you want? Our inventory rotates weekly — most species are back within days. Text or call us at 612-214-1955 and we’ll let you know exactly when it’ll be back.

If you live in Estrella, this is the only plant list you need.

Estrella Mountain Ranch's Architectural Review Committee (ARC) enforces one of the more detailed approved plant palettes in the West Valley. Every front-yard plant has to come off the Appendix B list — and getting that wrong means rework, fines, or a rejected ACC application.

So we did the homework. We pulled Estrella's Community Handbook, extracted every plant from Appendix B, and matched it against our nursery catalog. 193 of Estrella's approved species are carried by Three Timbers — organized below by the same categories the ARC uses.

Every plant below is clickable. Click any plant to see sizes, current pricing, and our 30-day plant warranty terms. Free delivery to Estrella on orders over $150.

Estrella’s Prohibited & Restricted Rules

Estrella’s Community Handbook doesn’t maintain a species-level prohibited list the way some other Phoenix HOAs do — instead, it relies on rules about placement and materials. The most important ones for plant buyers:

Rule What it means
No citrus in front yards Citrus trees (lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit) are approved at Estrella but only in rear yards behind your block wall — not in front-of-house planting.
No artificial plants Artificial / silk / plastic flowers, plants, or trees are prohibited anywhere on the property.
No river rock, volcanic cinders, or bark Approved ground cover materials are limited to decomposed granite (DG) and approved granite color palettes.
No steel, plastic, or scalloped edging Steel, plastic, scalloped concrete, and wooden bed borders are not permitted.

Planting & Watering Guide for Estrella Yards

Estrella’s three landscape character zones

Estrella divides the community into three landscape character zones, each with a slightly different design intent. Every plant on this page is approved in at least one zone — check your homeowner welcome packet for your assignment.

  • Desert Vista — the most arid, naturalistic zone. Low-density plantings of natives and desert-adapted species.
  • Sonoran Desert — the default Estrella aesthetic. A balanced mix of desert plants and water-wise ornamentals.
  • Lush — more traditional, denser planting with a higher percentage of flowering shrubs and groundcovers.

Best time to plant in Goodyear

Fall (October–November) is the ideal planting window. Soil is still warm for fast root development, but air temperatures have dropped enough to reduce transplant stress.

Spring (February–April) is the second window. Lower stress than summer planting, but plants won’t be as established when 110°F+ days arrive.

Summer planting is high-risk for trees and large shrubs. Hardy desert accents can go in any time of year.

Watering established Estrella yards

Goodyear is West Valley — hotter and drier than central Phoenix.

  • Weeks 1–2 after planting: Every 1–2 days, deep and slow (20–30 minutes per drip emitter)
  • Months 1–3: Every 3–5 days
  • Months 4–12: Every 7–10 days during cool months, every 4–6 days during summer peak
  • After year 1, established: Every 10–14 days in summer, every 3–4 weeks in winter for most species.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Three Timbers handle the Estrella ACC submittal for me?

Yes — if you book installation through us, we put together your ACC plant list, prepare a basic site sketch, and submit it for approval on your behalf. Book a free consultation to start.

What if a plant I want isn’t on Estrella’s approved list?

Don’t plant it in your front yard. The ARC will require its removal. Most “unapproved” plants have an approved substitute that looks similar.

Can I plant citrus at Estrella?

Yes — but only in your back yard. Citrus is on Estrella’s approved list as a rear-yard option (behind your block wall). It’s prohibited in any front-yard or street-visible planting.

What if a plant is listed as “sold out”?

Our inventory rotates weekly. Most plants are back in stock within days. Text or call 612-214-1955 and we’ll tell you exactly when the plant will be back — or suggest the closest in-stock substitute.

How fast can you deliver to Goodyear / Estrella?

Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday are our standard West Valley delivery days. Free delivery on orders over $150.

What’s included in the 30-day warranty?

Every tree, shrub, and flowering plant comes with a 30-day replacement guarantee. Cacti, agaves, aloes, ocotillo, and similar slow-growing succulents are warranted only at the time of delivery.
